Aster Munro (he/they)

Writer, filmmaker, and multi-disciplinary artist based in both London and Los Angeles, specialising in genre and surrealist horror films. With a background in prosthetics make-up, Munro spent a lot of his career working with gags and gore. In 2018, he relocated from California to London to pursue a degree in screenwriting at Regent’s University. During his time there, he made two short films.

The first, "Tentacle Head", was co-directed by Munro, who also handled the prosthetics, make-up, and editing. It was the winner of best performance from the Experimental Dance and Music Film Festival 2021, silver award for outstanding achievement for The Virgin Spring Cinefest, and best sound design for the Royal Television Society.

 

He later wrote and co-directed "Sewn with Scarlet Strings", which he also edited and composed the score. This film won awards for best experimental short for IndieX Film Fest, semi-finalist at FilmHaus, quarter-finalist at CLIMAX FEST, as well as screened at 4Theatre,and GASP Film festival.

Since graduating, Munro has worked on a range of projects in diverse roles, most recently working with Amazon MGM as a script supervisor trainee. His 2025 experimental short film, "Greenleaf Street", showed at TrazTropez and Backronym Films. He has just finished his latest short film, “Grin and Bear It,” a horror centered around the tooth fairy.
